Congenital cataract

Congenital cataracts occurs when the baby is born with an opaque lens or when this occurs shortly after birth. It's a major cause of blindness in childhood.
The crystalline is the natural lens of our eye and consists of an elastic outer capsule made of cells with a high water content, whose arrangement ensures its transparency. The opaque lens prevent light passing to the retina, and visual information isn't transmitted to the brain.
The treatments depend on the age of the patient and don't guarantee a perfect vision. Therefore, most pediatric patients need glasses after surgery.
